Brčko, 02.10.2013. The company BIMAL d.d. made a valuable donation to the UCC Children’s Clinic in Tuzla today.
The donation is an insulin pump to the value of 6000,00 BAM, for children suffering from type 1 diabetes. With this act, BIMAL joined the humanitarian action “Providing children suffering from diabetes with an insulin pump”, which was initiated in April this year by the Department of Endocrinology of the UCC Children’s Clinic in Tuzla and the Association of citizens, parents and friends of children with diabetes “NOVI HORIZONTI” in Tuzla, aiming to obtain 7 insulin pumps in total.
Therapy involving insulin pumps established itself in the treatment of children and adolescents with diabetes due to the fact that with small children and adolescents, it is most difficult to achieve good control of diabetes, not only due to physiological but also psychosocial specificities at this age. Studies have shown that advantages of the insulin pump are great, considering that with its use a better regulation of blood sugar levels, a greater flexibility in daily activities and meals as well as less pain, mainly due to the lower number of needle pricks, are achieved. “The donation of the insulin pump aims at implementing our idea to provide children and adolescents suffering from type 1 diabetes, with the most advanced treatment methods available today. This donation stands for and contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the children suffering from diabetes and their families. We owe sincere gratitude to BIMAL d.d. which recognised the importance of our call to action,” said the Chief of the Department of Endocrinology of the Children’s Clinic, a paediatrician-endocrinologist diabetologist Professor Dr.Sc.Med. Alma Toromanović, regarding this donation.
A representative of BIMAL, Natasa Pucar, Head of Corporate Communications, formally delivered the donation and stated, “We made the decision to participate in this humanitarian action because BIMAL is orientated towards a permanent focus on children and improvement of the quality of their lives and with this act we wanted to help children suffering from diabetes as well as to contribute to awareness of the battle against this illness in order to encourage others to be involved in the donation of insulin pumps.”
